Binxy Baby (discount coupon inside)

I HAVE MOVED TO A NEW OFFICIAL WEBSITE. FOR THE CURRENT DISCOUNT CODE AND MOST UP-TO-DATE INFORMATION PLEASE GO TO ASKDOCTORMOMMY.COM

Once upon a time, grocery shopping was a team sport that my husband and I would confidently divide and conquer. Then our son was born. All of a sudden our well oiled machine fell apart and going to the grocery store was full of tears and screaming; not to mention the baby wasn't enjoying it either. First I tried carrying him. This left me unable to push the grocery cart and I didn't have enough hands to hold any groceries. Next, I put his car seat in the cart. It took up so much room I couldn't buy anything. Finally, we decided to bring the stroller into the store. However, inevitably my son decided it was time to eat mid-way through our shopping trip. This lead to my husband having to push the stroller and pull the grocery cart by himself while I nursed our screaming son; see the result below (this photo was not posed; my husband didn't even know he was being photographed).
Then I discovered BinxyBaby, a genius product that is essentially a hammock for the shopping cart. It can be used with the baby strapped directly into a three point harness, or you can place the car seat in the BinxyBaby and secure the car seat with a long strap.

Grocery shopping has never been my favorite thing, but with BinxyBaby Luke loves the feeling of riding in the grocery cart. I no longer have to rush through the grocery store as quickly as possible because my son is having a melt down. Plus, as a bonus I get to look down and see his sweet little face.
So far we have successfully shopped at Trader Joes, Vons, Albertsons, and Target. Of the places tried, the only carts I wasn't able to use Binxy with were Babys-R-Us; the Velcro straps that secure Binxy to the cart aren't quite long enough to fit through their cart holes and secure properly.

While the BinxyBaby is a pricey purchase, the peace of mind that comes with my son being safe and happy is more than worth it. As a special thank you for reading my review, here is a 10% off Coupon for BinxyBaby.

Tommee Tippee Diaper Pail

When I went shopping for a diaper pail for our baby registry I chose based on cost and appearance. In a world of tacky looking diaper pails I was trying to find one that blended in with the nursery decor and wouldn't break the budget. The last thing I wanted was an expensive eye sore that screamed pooper pail. When I came across the Tommee Tippee diaper pail I was pleased; it's small, reasonably priced, understated, and comes in multiple color options. However, within the first week of using it weaknesses started showing themselves. First, the small size works against you. We can only fit 8-10 NB diapers in it at a time, this translates into having to empty it daily. Second, it stinks despite being emptied daily. I finally bought an air freshener to stick inside the lid and that helped some. Third, it works by you having to manually push the diaper through a hinged trap door. This means that your hand is touching the plastic which multiple dirty diapers have passed through- disgusting! Finally, in order to change the bag you have to maneuver the trash bag across a blade under the lid to cut it-- much harder then it sounds. To sum it up, I wish we had spent a little bit more money and I had tried out the floor models before purchasing one. In fact I am actively searching for a new one so if you have a diaper pail you love, comment and tell me what brand it is.

JayRobb Whey Protein Powder

I bought the Jay Robb Protein Powder after a recommendation by my Bradley Method coach to increase my daily protein intake. She suggested I aim for 80-100g/ day to reduce my chances of developing pre-eclampsia (a dangerous condition that can lead to reduced blood flow to baby and seizures in mama).

I must say I was initially skeptical to pay $40 for a one month supply, but decided to give it a try. After all, I knew if I didn't like it my husband would choke down anything to prevent wasting money. Thankfully, that wasn't the case at all. The first thing I noticed is that when you open the bag there is a sweet fragrance. The powder is fine and easy to scoop. When consuming protein powder my preference is to combine a couple ounces of non-fat milk with one scoop of powder, teaspoon of peanut butter, several ice cubes and a small amount of water all blended in my magic bullet. My immediate first impression was that it was creamy, and delicious. I was also pleased that it did not have a strong discernible Stevia flavor since I am not a Stevia fan.

I have now finished the bag, which took less then 3 weeks because my husband loved the Jay Robb Protein Powder so much he was drinking 1-2 shakes a day himself =) These shakes have quickly become one of my favorite treats, high protein (25g/ shake), with 0 sugar, delicious, and they keep my tummy happy for several hours at a time.
